More Dads Working This Father’s Day

Father’s Day is Sunday and if your formerly laid-off dad is back to work, that’s something to celebrate.
A survey by recruitment website CareerBuilder.com says 84 percent of working dads who were laid off in the last 12 months have found full-time employment.
But working can have some downsides as well. Leaner staffs and heavy workloads that have resulted from the 2008 economic meltdown mean that 22 percent of working dads say they put in more than 50 hours a week on average, up from 19 percent of employed dads who said last year that they worked that much.
As a result of too many hours on the job, 39 percent of dads say they spend fewer than two hours a day with their children and 16 percent say they spend less than one hour a day. About 20 percent say they bring home work more than three days a week. More than 34 percent said they missed more than one significant event in their children’s lives because they had to work.
If you’re still job hunting, you may wish you had these problems.
